(ii) The doctor wanted to marry a woman doctor. He wanted her to be a fat woman. He felt that a fat wife won’t be able to run after him and catch him if he ever made a silly mistake. But in reality, he got a very thin wife. And she could run very fast.

(iii) The doctor thought himself to be very handsome. He thought he had an attractive smile. But all such thoughts vanish at once when the snake is coiled around his arm. Now he calls himself a foolish, stupid doctor. All this creates a lot of humour.

Short Summary Of The Chapter

A doctor tells the story of his encounter with a snake. The doctor had just started his practice as a homeopath. He lived in a small rented room. It was full of rats. The room had a gabled roof. One night, the doctor was sitting at his table. He was reading a book. A kerosene lamp was burning on the table. The table had a large mirror on it. Suddenly something fell down from above. The bar doctor turned to see what it was. He froze with fear when he saw a snake. It was wriggling over the back of his chair. At once the snake coiled itself around the doctor’s left arm. The doctor could do nothing but pray to God. The snake turned its head and started looking at its image in the mirror. It uncoiled itself from the doctor’s arm and crept onto the table. It moved towards the mirror to have a closer look at its image. The doctor at once got up and ran out of the room. He spent the night at a friend’s house. He came back in the morning to move his things. But some thief had taken away everything. The only thing left behind was the doctor’s dirty vest.
